My best tip for a successful family photoshoot during the holiday season
Make it a tradition!
An annual family shot is a great way to capture your family over time, while making memories that will last a life time!
Over the years, I’ve taken a lot of family photos, and while mom’s usually want everyone looking at the camera for at least one photo, I find that my favorite images are always the ones where I can capture them showing their personalities, laughing, being shy, or doing whatever it is that makes them happy. How to accomplish the images that you’ll cherish forever?
I get that having pictures taken is not always the happiest place for everyone, but when we know what to expect, it is easier and fun. So, make it a tradition!

I find these tips helpful in any season!
Above all, engage with your kids and have fun!
I met this girl when her mom was pregnant with her brother, I took her pregnancy pictures, baby Oliver’s newborn, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months, and every Fall ever since. They know my name, and they know what to expect when they see me. We always pic a location that is easy for them to find things to do, but they have learned to just look straight into the camera as well.
This family has been in front of my camera for over a decade. The youngest daughter was not even “in the picture” yet (pun intended) when I first took their family picture. I’ve seen these kids grow and they are very comfortable in front of my camera. The photo sessions are usually a fun family outing where they get to pose some, play some, and now that two of them are in college they even get headshots for their professional profiles.
