Megan + Matthew | A Nashville - Loveless Cafe - Wedding Proposal | Darien Photography
Iconic location in Nashville for a surprise wedding proposal | Darien Photography | Engagement photographer
When I got a message from Matthew asking if I was available around 7:30 AM for a photo shoot the Sunday before Thanksgiving, I assumed he was interested in some headshots or family pics, being that I had previously taken photos of him with Megan (his girlfriend) and his daughter around the same time the previous year. I told him that I love early morning light for photo shoots (the earlier the better!); I was available; and asked what did he have in mind? His response:
"I'm going to ask Megan to marry me, and my daughter will be there! We met at the Loveless cafe almost 4 years ago, so I want to do it there. We are going to church with breakfast beforehand, and I'll ask her outside by the sign, weather permitting. I was hoping that you could be there and get photos as it happens, because you did such a great job last time."
I am honored that he asked me to document this moment with photographs, as he said, "to have forever." "I was hoping you could stand by the front where the big sign is by the road and I will convince her and my daughter to get a photo there." We planned what we would say to each other, because she would recognize me and my husband from the previous Fall-Session. Since we live down the road from the Loveless, we figured we had a good excuse for us to be there. Miller and I would pretend to be there for breakfast as well and taking pictures of the iconic sign while waiting. Nothing out of the ordinary. Everything went smoothly, the weather was cold--but not raining as the days before--so he proposed by The Loveless Cafe sign as he wanted, and of course she said yes! Miller and I captured the proposal as it happened and I took some quick portraits and pictures of the engagement ring.
He couldn't have picked a better time, place, and way to propose. His parents were looking out from inside the restaurant and joined them afterwards for breakfast. Also, having his daughter present meant the world to Megan, as she expressed (when she posted a picture of the three of them that Miller took with Mathew's phone) right after: "My heart is bursting. Tis the season for gratefulness and thankfulness. These two people are my world. I could never imagine a life without them, and now I don't have to. Matthew, thank you for making sure G was there for this special moment. You're the best fiancé and dad." I am positive that Greenlee agrees with Megan's statement; she was very excited and sporting her own toy ring. Her dad asked her some days beforehand if she would be OK with him asking Megan to marry him.
Very appropriately, their wedding will take place at the Loveless Harper Room! This couple is not only very attractive, but they know what they like and they have set goals. Such a smart and handsome couple. Congratulations you two!!
