You are engaged to be married, dreaming of having one of the top wedding venues in Nashville TN as the setting of your big day. But let’s face it, it can be overwhelming to pick the right venue for you in a sea of options.

This is a selection of the top locations for couples who care about aesthetics, as well as the overall experience of their wedding day. It does not matter if you are eloping, having an intimate celebration, or planning an epic party, there is something for you here. I hope you find it helpful.

As a Nashville wedding photographer, I have photographed many weddings over the years, and seen the Nashville wedding scene evolve from when we were a small college town —where the norm were classic southern charm weddings, to the vibrant wedding destination city it is today —where high end hotels, estates turned luxury wedding events, and innovative venues abound, serving every budget and style. I have seen some venues change gears and close, others becoming iconic to Nashville and sought after. With so many wedding venues to count! I decided to feature here most of my favorite Nashville + metropolitan area venues, as well as some stunning places that are worth the drive. I even included a couple of places that are not technically a venue, but they are iconic to Nashville, and at least one is free (for those eloping and/or looking for photo locations) —My approach to wedding photography blends documentary and editorial styles effortlessly. I focus on the emotions, as well as the aesthetics of your event, delivering true to life colorful photographs, with some black and white in the mix. So, I chose for this list venues that I consider beautiful in themselves, and others that are the perfect canvas for talented planners to design the event of your dreams.

A richly historical city, you'll find that many of the top wedding venues in Nashville are historic buildings or sites. Nashville is also home to Vanderbilt University, and a to-scale replica of the Parthenon. Nashville, known as Music City, is famous for country music, hot chicken, and whiskey. But we have so much more to offer. Classic musicians for your ceremony, amazing bands to keep everyone dancing through the night. And many other attractions and venues that make Nashville a Destination for weddings of all kinds.

My first PRO TIP for your wedding is: find yourselves a wedding planner.

Hiring a full service planner is a must if you want a stress-free wedding weekend, it does not matter the size of your wedding. I will expand on this and the difference of a full service planner vs a month or day of wedding coordinator at the end of this article (take me to those tips now), so make sure to scroll down if you want to read more —CONTACT ME if you need recommendations for a wedding planner. I’ll be happy to give you some names. Make sure to briefly describe your personality and the vibe you’re dreaming for your wedding, so that I can direct you to the planners that may be the best match for you. You could email me as well: darien@darienphotography.com

Here, you’ll find 50+ of the best wedding venues in Nashville and surrounding areas. From Historic Mansions and Estates, to museums, hotels, bars. From iconic to outside the box, there is something for every couple's style and budget, indoors, outdoors, and every season.

Johnny Cash Hideaway - West of Nashville - 9347 Old Highway 46, Lyles, TN 37025

  • Indoor and outdoor spaces.

  • FARM: 160 with table layout | MUSEUM: Indoor Seating 80-100 people. Outdoor Covered Seating 90-100 people Visit their website for more details.

  • TOP FEATURES THAT MAKE THIS VENUE UNIQUE: Johnny Cash spent more than 30 years in the Hideaway Farm house. He fell in love with it and the land surrounding it, so much that he called it “the center of my universe.” The current owners bought the place in 2015. After adding smooth walkways, convenient parking, and public facilities, the Hideaway Farm opened to welcome visitors to the restfulness and peacefulness that imbues this land. | The Storytellers Museum Located a short drive from the Hideaway Farm is a loving restoration of a building that Johnny Cash once owned. He was the benefactor of the creation of a little stage here, and supported small intimate concerts for the community – including the “Saturday Night In Hickman County” guitar pulls. One of the most significant events that took place at this location was the 20-year anniversary of Johnny Cash being in the music industry. Friends and family members gathered to celebrate Johnny’s impact on music. When Storytellers Hideaway Farm owners purchased the building in 2016, it was months from collapse. Within a year, the building was restored to its architectural beauty, and now the heart of Saturday Night in Hickman County is coming back to life, with a twist. The Storytellers opened for country music fans from around the world and regularly has concerts and songwriter nights open to the public.

  • THIS VENUE MAY BE FOR YOU IF YOU LOVE: Classic country music. Johnny Cash, and truly unique places. This is the perfect place for an intimate wedding for couples who not only are truly in love with each other, but with the man in black and his legacy. See more images from this venue’s wedding featured above, published on Equally Wed and on Darien’s Photography’s blog post.

  • PRO TIPS FROM A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER’S PERSPECTIVE: The museum, as you may expect is full with memorabilia. A lot of pieces that belonged to Cash, and many other inspired by him and his music. Take advantage of both indoor and outdoor areas, as you get access to every area when you rent the Museum for your event. The farm is conducive to a more typical outdoor wedding with a barn structure as the main point. You get access to the house too, but only for photo ops, not for hosting the event indoors. Some couples have their main event at the museum, but book the farm for a guided visit and/or couple's pictures. Make sure to check both places before you decide for sure.

NARROWS OF THE HARPETH - BLUFF OVERLOOK

Narrows of the Harpeth - Bluff Overlook - Kingstons Springs, TN

  • Only outdoors

  • Best for elopements

  • TOP FEATURES THAT MAKE THIS LOCATION UNIQUE: This location is an incredible overlook by the Harpeth river, only 30 minutes west of Downtown Nashville. This is actually NOT a venue, but I wanted to include it here as an incredible option for an elopement. Narrow's of the Harpeth is mostly know for The Montgomery Bell Tunnel, a 290-foot man-made tunnel which was built for industrial purposes of the iron-manufacturing operation, Patterson Ford. Montgomery Bell built the tunnel as a means to fuel the process of producing wrought iron with hydropower. Both, the tunnel and the lookout are an easy hike from the parking lot, only 1/3 of a mile to the overlook. There are not a lot of spaces to park though, so this is definitely a place where you don't want more people than your officiant and your photographer with you.

  • THIS LOCATION MAY BE FOR YOU IF YOU LOVE: a great view as the backdrop of your wedding ceremony, but you don't want to spend a whole day hiking to the top of a mountain to get a photo of you two next to a cliff. Also, you love that the best things in life are free!

  • PRO TIPS FROM A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER’S PERSPECTIVE: Time your hike depending on when you want to be on the top of the overlook and the weather conditions. I've only been there in the morning/early afternoon, and the light is great there. This is a place where people go to catch the sunrise, which could be very nice, but may be very foggy at times. At whatever time you go, you'll likely have a few minutes to yourselves, but you can also have spectators, since this is a popular public park. This spot is still very peaceful, and the epic view is worth the little effort to get to it. I highly recommend it. The day I took the photos featured above, as my friend and I were walking down from the cliff, we literally heard the happy YES! as the couple got engaged by the tunnel. So we hurried to congratulate them and offer to take some pics. I was luckily armed with my 35mm film camera that day. :)

Housed in a former goods store, Wilburn Street Studio’s walls and nooks are original to the building’s design, dating back to 1912. The nooks add a unique element where they can be a cozy, hangout spot, serve as a display area or make a fun photo booth spot. While the floors might be new, they represent what would have been there originally. The back of the space boasts a catering prep area and a large, private backyard. • PRO TIPS FROM A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER’S PERSPECTIVE: Don't over do the decor here. The indoor space is amazing as is. Besides from gorgeous rentals, it does not need much. The outdoors are more of a blank slate, where you can get a bit more creative. Something some people don't know, is that the AMAX Talent Agency is part of this venue, and serves as a cool place to scape for some rest, or to have cool portraits as newlyweds. From a photographer's perspective, my two favorite areas for portraits are next to the big window by the main entrance, and the pink velvety drape that covers the catering area. Do not underestimate these areas when designing your wedding spaces. ;) Visit their website for more details.

  • PRO TIPS FROM A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER’S PERSPECTIVE: If I could name just one Nashville building that I absolutely adore, this would be it. The architecture of this former train station is breathtaking. I love to use it as the backdrop of many of my portraiture clients and engagement sessions. It's proximity with the Frist Art Museum, makes it so easy to combine the exteriors for photographs that will make anyone stop scrolling. The rooms are so unique, nothing in the interiors is cookie cutter. The design of their rooms marry the art-deco style of the station’s heyday with the Romanesque Revival architecture in which the station was originally constructed. While no two rooms are alike, each features stylish décor and the in-room details and amenities you’d expect from a luxury boutique hotel.

The Frist Museum - Downtown Nashville

Magnificent indoor spaces and courtyard with vantage point view of another great building: Union Station Hotel

  • Up to 250 guests

  • TOP FEATURES THAT MAKE THIS VENUE UNIQUE: The Frist Art Museum structure stands alone in Nashville as a historic, urban edifice rooted in streamlined 20th century elegance. The space offers a timeless Art Deco backdrop infused with the modern sensibilities of a thriving city. Located on the cusp of the downtown area, the building is an important cultural and historic landmark; its stripped classicist façade, soaring ceilings, and gleaming marble floors creating a sophisticated milieu for any event. —Despite the years of tradition, the space itself is modern and malleable and can be customized to accommodate anything from intimate ceremonies to extravagant receptions with ease. The Frist Art Museum’s convenient location on Broadway puts guests in the center of one of the country’s most exciting and vibrant downtown atmospheres.

  • THIS VENUE MAY BE FOR YOU IF YOU LOVE: ART. You can make your wedding a work of art at the Frist Art Museum's art deco building and courtyard. This stunning white marble building was built in the 1930's, and is the former headquarters of the US Postal Service in Nashville. If you want a contemporary classic look for your wedding, at a venue that sets the stage for a memorable event, don't hesitate to ask your wedding planner to get you this venue.

  • PRO TIPS FROM A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER’S PERSPECTIVE: The Frist is a favorite location for wedding ceremonies, engagements, elopements, rehearsal dinners, receptions, and more! I particularly love their terrace in the back of the building. The light is usually amazing there for an outdoor ceremony with views that are so romantic and classic. The Grand Lobby is an excellent choice for cocktail hour, followed by dancing at their auditorium. The courtyard and lobby do not need much adorment, they are gorgeous as is. The reception area for dancing and seated dinning is a blank canvas for your wedding design/planners team to make the space to meet your personality and vision. Having a full-service planner for this venue is the best idea, since as an art museum they have a few (understandable) restrictions that are easier to maneuver with an experienced wedding designer/planner on your side. — I would love it to be invited to document your wedding day here. Ask your planner to contact me, or you can fill out an inquiry form HERE.

Germantown Inn - Germantown, 1218 6th Avenue North

The Inn is committed to exceeding your and your guests’ expectations and tailoring every detail. With four unique areas which include, The Parlor, The Courtyard Terrace, The Solarium and The Rooftop Veranda, use The Inn as the canvas to create the perfect event for your celebration. — The Germantown Inn is located in one of the oldest buildings in the historic heart of Germantown. The two-story, Federal-style house was constructed in 1865 by German immigrant H. H. Wallman, a prominent shoemaker for the city’s elite at the time. The home remained in the family’s possession through generations until the mid-1900s. Modern Vintage Events (wedding planners I adore) and I hosted an event here once, featuring a floral installation by our super talented friend and sought after florist: Mary Love, and it was such a great experience. After that, I've seen many planners transform the Inn to host intimate weddings, that looked as dreamy as they were fun.

ADDITIONAL PRO TIPS FROM A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER

Let’s talk about wedding planners:

Hiring a full service planner is a must if you want a stress-free wedding weekend. It is key to understand the difference between a Full Service Wedding Planner that you hire to work for you vs a wedding venue planner. As well as a Month or day of wedding coordinator (a lot of venues offer this kind as part of their services.)

  • FULL SERVICE PLANNER: There are many aspects and nuances to planning an event and a planner will work with you and your venue to make sure everything falls perfectly into place the day of your event.

Top wedding planners and designers only offer full service planning and designing for every phase of the wedding process to deliver an efficient and elevated experience. These weddings can only happen at venues with open vendor policies, or in most cases at the private estates of their clients, where they produce ground-up stunning events. These planners work for YOU, they are making sure that your goals for your wedding are met.

When venues offer full service wedding planning, they are both making sure that you have a memorable event at their venue, as well as ensuring that their spaces are kept as they should. They do not always plan everything though. Some do not include a band, and close to zero venues include a photographer. When you hire a full service wedding planner outside of your venue, your planner helps you to find the photographer that suits your style and budget. But in both cases, if you already have a favorite photographer in mind, they usually go with who you want.

  • MONTH or DAY OF WEDDING COORDINATOR: This is a service that is close to extinction, unless your venue offers it. When you work with a venue event coordinator, they are making sure that the venue has everything you need for your event, as far as the services they provide. For instance: if the power goes off, they'll offer a solution. But a venue coordinator does not deal with vendors, or the design and execution of the wedding.

Please let me know if you need help finding a wedding planner, I’ll be more than happy to refer you to one that fits your personality and vibe of the wedding you’re dreaming about! Scroll down and fill out the inquiry form, or email me at darien@darienphotography.com

CONNECT WITH ME

I love being part of couple’s special days and preserve their memories with my images. My approach to wedding photography is a blend between capturing the candid, real moments (documentary), as well as provide some guidance into flattering poses for portraits when appropriate (editorial). I switch back and forth effortlessly: I am there when you need me, but I do my best work when you’re enjoying your day to the fullest and I capture those moments unobtrusively, you may forget I am around at some point. I do believe that a wedding should not be treated like a photo shoot. I want you to be present at your wedding, and relive the emotions of the day when you browse over the pages of your wedding album.
