Hello,

my name is Darien

It is an honor to be entrusted to create your visual legacy

Where I am from and where I am based

I was born and raised in Mexico City. Living and working as a photographer in Nashville, and surrounding areas of Middle TN, for over two decades now.

What inspires my photography

I am inspired by classic beauty, effortless elegance, art, people of different cultures, and travel.

I am a fan of the classic, black-and-white cinematography by Gabriel Figueroa in countless Mexican movies, the romantic monochrome look in Woody Allen’s “Manthattan,” the marvelous use of color on Almodovar’s films, and Mexican architecture, art and culture. My photographs have a cinematic quality. I tend to shoot horizontal photos, framing and telling your story like a movie sequence.

I am also inspired by portraits of iconic classic beauties, with fabulous style, like Grace Kelly, Jackie O., Audrey Hepburn, María Felix, Frida Kahlo, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Salma Hayek.

I appreciate the beauty of simple things as much as I admire stunning creations. Whether it’s an elopement or an epic celebration, my goal is to tell your story with photographs that make you feel something, and bring you back to the joy you experienced that day.

“I appreciate simplicity, true beauty that last over time, and a little wit and eclecticism that make life more fun”
— Elliott Erwitt

What is my background and experience as a photographer

I have been passionate about photography most of my life. I started my journey with photography in college at Mexico’s UNAM, where I graduated with a degree in journalism with emphasis on film. Later, I continued my education at NYU, School of Visual Arts and the International Center of Photography. In 1999, the legendary Elliott Erwitt chose one of my images as a winner of the M.I.L.K. international competition I had other awards, features, publications and shows that came after, but the MILK collection inspired me to “capture and celebrate the essence of humanity” and become a professional.

I learned photography using 35mm film and I still love using it. Although I shoot mainly digital, my goal is to achieve the timeless natural-look of film in my photographs, find your authentic beauty and invest my passion and skill into every single image.
